Want to launch a career in public relations? Here’s your chance to write news releases, contribute newsletter and Web copy, post on Facebook and Twitter and learn the ins and outs of the PR business. Get a resume boost by interning at the UW Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention (UW-CTRI), part of the School of Medicine and Public Health.
The ideal candidates will have strong writing skills. Experience with social media and Web software a plus. Willingness to do data-entry work in between higher-profile tasks required. Seeking students with a positive mindset. Willingness to work beyond one semester a plus.
Tasks may include:
• Handling media requests from national and local media outlets.
• Writing news releases and articles for distribution.
• Interviewing fellow students and faculty about their efforts to help people quit smoking.
• Interviewing people UW-CTRI has helped to quit smoking.
• Updating an internal Web site, plus Facebook and Twitter pages.
• Updating databases and handling data-entry tasks.
Experience in the following computer programs required:
• Microsoft Word
• Excel
• Web browsing
Other programs the student will likely use:
• Dreamweaver (Web updating tool)
• PhotoShop / Illustrator (photos and graphics)
• Microsoft Access (database)
We are looking for 12 or more hours a week. Minimum of $8 per hour (more for advanced experience).
