WI State Journal seeking state government reporter

The Wisconsin State Journal, south-central Wisconsin's leading news source, is seeking a seasoned professional to join its state government reporting team.

This is a high-profile, high-pressure job. As one of two Capitol reporters, you'll be expected to produce a lively mix of news and analysis while pursuing high-impact enterprise and watchdog stories. We need a clear thinker and strong writer who can quickly make sense of complex policy initiatives, bring a human context to government coverage and build a deep roster of knowledgeable sources.

Experience in accountability reporting, aggressive use of public records law, and a high comfort level working with data is required. At least five years of daily newspaper reporting experience is preferred.

The Wisconsin State Journal, based in Madison, has a circulation of 127,000 Sunday, 100,000 on Saturday and 95,000 daily.

To be considered for the position applicants must apply online at www.jobs.capitalnewspapers.com by Feb. 22, 2010. In addition to the online application, please send up to five samples of recent relevant work to Phil Brinkman at pbrinkman@madison.com.
